Founded in 2012 by an investment from Mark Cuban, the U2 team, ACT Venture Capital and other private investors, Soundwave developed a music discovery app which tracked the songs that friends, artists and celebrities were listening to in real time through its 1.5 million+ users in 190 countries. Over time, Soundwave added smart-context detection allowing music playlists to change with changing people and devices in the immediate environment. This growing technical content curation ability led to the company being acquired by Spotify in 2016.
